Free online OCR for Maithili
Retyping a printed page or a screenshot by hand is slow, especially in Maithili. Our free image to text converter uses optical character recognition (OCR) to turn the letters in your picture into editable Unicode text that you can paste into Word, WhatsApp, email or any website.
The tool reads Maithili in the Devanagari script – vowel signs and joined letters included – and can then translate the result into English and other languages. It is powered by Tesseract, a well-known open-source OCR engine, and runs entirely in your browser, so your documents stay private: the image is never sent to our server.
How to convert an image to text
- Drag and drop a JPG, PNG or WEBP image, click to browse, paste a screenshot with Ctrl + V, or take a photo on your phone.
- Wait a few seconds while the text is recognised – the progress bar shows each step.
- Check and correct the text, then copy it, download it as a .txt file, or open it in the Maithili keyboard.
Tips for the best accuracy
OCR works best on clear, printed text. Use good lighting, hold the camera straight above the page and crop away anything that is not text. Blurry photos, tiny or decorative fonts and handwriting reduce accuracy, so always check the result.
