How to Join Consonants and Vowels to Make Konkani Words
Konkani in Devanagari is written in syllables. Every consonant already contains a short "a", so क is read ka. A vowel sign (matra) changes the vowel, and the halant (्) joins two consonants into one letter.
Three rules to remember
- Consonant + matra: क + ा = का (kā) – press k e.
- Type in the order you speak: the matra ि is written before the letter but typed after it – कि (ki) – press k f.
- Consonant + halant + consonant: क् + ष = क्ष – press k d Shift+,.
