Type with your own keyboard or click the on-screen keys using the Persian – Standard (ISIRI 9147) layout, where each key types the Persian letter that sounds like it, or simply speak and let voice typing write Persian for you. Copy the text into WhatsApp, email, Word or social media, download it as a file, print it, or translate it in one click.

How to Use the Persian Keyboard

  1. Choose the layout. Keep Keyboard Type on Persian – Standard (ISIRI 9147) to type in Persian, or switch to English – QWERTY for English. The text box writes from right to left.
  2. Start typing. Click the keys of the on-screen keyboard with your mouse or finger, or type on your computer keyboard – each key types the Persian letter that sounds like its English letter, for example k → ن, b → ذ and s → س.
  3. Use Shift and Caps Lock for more letters. They switch to the second set of characters – letters with dots and the vowel marks, such as », ة, [ and ئ (Shift + k → »).
  4. Use Ctrl or Alt for special characters. The third set holds the Persian numerals 1 2 3 and other signs.
  5. Or type in Roman letters. In English – QWERTY mode, type Persian words the way they sound and pick the Persian word from the suggestions.

  7. Save or share your text. Use the toolbar above the text box to start a new text, download it as a .txt file, copy, print, share it on WhatsApp or by email, work in full screen, or translate it into English and other languages.

How Persian Letters Join to Make Words

Persian is written from right to left with the Arabic letters and four of its own: پ چ ژ گ. Most letters join the next one. The zero-width non-joiner – Shift+b on this keyboard – keeps two letters apart inside a word, as in می‌روم (mi-ravam, I go).

About the Persian Language

Persian (فارسی, Farsi) is an Iranian language of the Indo-European family – a cousin of Hindi and Urdu rather than of Arabic. It is the official language of Iran; as Dari it is an official language of Afghanistan, and as Tajik (written in Cyrillic) of Tajikistan. Persian is written from right to left in the Arabic script with four extra letters. For centuries it was the language of culture and government in India too – many Hindi and Urdu words, such as دوست (dost, friend), come from Persian.
